Friday Five: Gray Jacobik

Gray Jacobik is our current featured artist!

I am a landscape painter who interprets abstractly on three planes that may, or may not, occur simultaneously: the lateral plane, the same as the land and sea itself; aerially, as derived from images of the Earth from space; and from a deep space perspective as provided through the Hubble Space Telescope.

See more of Gray’s Abstract Paintings in his EBSQ Portfolio. You can also find his work at grayjacobikartist.com.

EBSQ Facebook Artist of the Week: Carol DeMumbrum

Who and where are you?

Hi, I am Carol DeMumbrum. I paint subjects that both stop me visually and touch me emotionally. I am blessed to live on the same farm I grew up on, right outside of Nashville, Tennessee. If I have not had a paintbrush or pencil in my hand, the day does not feel complete and I am not a happy girl.

How were you introduced to Facebook?

From the social aspect at first, to keep in touch with family and friends. Now, through my business page I am able to get to know my facebook fans, and they get to know me and what is going on in and outside my studio.

Any tips for other artists starting a Facebook Page?

• Post regularly to keep your fans up to date with your work as well as a little about you.

• Have a giveaway through your blog for new facebook fans.

• Interact by asking questions — question poll feature is a great tool.

• Link your work with sites where they can purchase.

• Don’t forget to share upcoming shows, paintings that have sold as well as older paintings.

• Share links that might help other artists.

What’s your favorite Facebook Page feature?

I love the photo album feature, you can create an album and continue to add to it and it puts the latest photo at the top of your page. This feature is great to use for available paintings, sold paintings and any other photos you would like to group together.

Example: Photo album of the critters that taunt my dog outside my studio—a fan favorite.

What’s coming next from your studio?

Lots of plein air paintings. I belong to a local group of plein air artists called the Chestnut Group, a nonprofit alliance of landscape artists and friends dedicated to the conservation & preservation of vanishing landscapes in Middle Tennessee.
I am also planning a series of bovine paintings with a bit of a Nashville flair. Thanks for stopping a minute to read a little about me! I would love to get to know you! I hope you will visit and like my facebook page, and learn more about what is going on inside and outside my studio.

EBSQ Facebook Artist of the Week: Tracey Allyn Greene

Who and where are you?

I am Tracey Allyn Greene full-time primarily self-taught artist at Tag’s Cats.  I have a studio in Huntsville Alabama.  I specialize in pet portrait oil paintings but also do many other subjects and mediums.

How were you introduced to Facebook?

I joined Facebook a few years back.  I had actually started my art career online through Ebay at first then discovered the EBSQ online artist community through Ebay at that time back in 2003.  Most of my art career until recent years has been spent promoting myself online and enjoying the fellowship and support of the online art communities.  Facebook started to take off and at first I joined just to see what all the hype was about then discovered many of my online artist friends were already a part of it and it is a great way to network. It is amazing to be able to talk with artists all over the world and help to promote each other.

Any tips for other artists starting a Facebook Page?

I was on Facebook for a while before even starting my own artwork page.  Tips?  Keep it updated whenever you can.  Upload your art and share it with your personal page as well.  Invite fans to events and openings. Post works in progress people are interested!  It’s great to sell your art direct online then if you have sales you can invite people to participate even if they are far away.  I also…as an animal lover and rescuer…enjoy helping out a rescue once a year with a drawing for someone to win a custom pet portrait all proceeds benefiting a favorite cat rescue of mine.  I invite all my FB page fans and personal FB page friends to the event, and it gets attention both to the cat rescue and to my artwork.  Anything I donate a painting to I promote on my page.

What’s your favorite Facebook Page feature?

As far as a FB page feature I like the best….it would have to be being able to create an event and the share feature.

What’s coming next from your studio?

Right now I am working on several things….I still do local and regional art festivals so gearing up for new art to take to those.  Always doing pet portrait commissions and have several I am working on at the moment.  And I have a huge series of paintings in the works for a solo exhibit in June at Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment in Huntsville where I have a studio space.  The crazy cat lady artist always keeps busy!

EBSQ Blogger of the Week: Fawn McNeill

Artist Fawn McNeill

Who and where are you?

I was born Fawn Marie McNeill, a very special name as my father gave it to me without even considering if my mother would like it.  He just wrote it on the birth certificate!  She loved it.  Anyway, it is very special to me because it is the only thing I have from him, besides my artistic nature.  My Dad, Tom McNeill, died in a car accident before I was three years old. We moved a lot when I was a child, but I claim Libby, Montana as my home, because my grandmother lived there and I got to live with her off and on throughout my life. I’ve lived in Minnesota, Hawaii, Guam, California, Maryland, to name a few places.  As an adult I settled here in Florida where I have raised two boys and am currently enjoying 3 grandchildren!

Most people know me as Fawn Barr (my married name). It is the name I go by, accept on my art.  I use my maiden name as my pen name. It gets quite confusing, but I know who I am!

Cypress Shores 2 by Fawn McNeill

How did you get started art blogging?

I was working full time, teaching art at the local high school when I began to paint and post almost daily. I got involved with DailyPainters.com and took their challenge to do quality work daily, posting a small new painting almost everyday for over a year.  It went so well that I began working at home full time. I sold quite a few paintings each month!  It was very encouraging.  Of course with the economic turn down, it has been much harder to stay with it, but I still try to get in three posts or so a week.  I work part time now, teaching at an art gallery to help with the expenses to fund my painting habits.

Endless Peace by Fawn McNeill

Any tips for other EBSQ art bloggers?

The most important tip I can pass along is that you do lots of research.  Find as many sites as you can to link up with.  There are lots of free sites to get involved with, and lots of places you can trade links. Check out other artists’ links and sites.  Forums are great too, you can learn so much about photographing your art, adding gadgets to your blog, and the pros and cons of so many topics!  The more links and the more visible you are, the more you will show up on the search engines.

Passing It On by Fawn McNeill

What’s your musical inspiration of choice when you’re working in your studio?

I love to turn on the contemporary Christian music. It is up-beat and the message is positive. It gives me an attitude of worship while I paint God’s awesome creation.

Abstract Iris 4 by Fawn McNeill

What’s coming next from your easel?

I have been stuck for a while now.  I explored so many styles and techniques while doing the daily paintings, and never settled into any one thing.  I love impressionism the most. I did a series of drippy back grounds with realism on top, a series of abstracts, a series of angels, and a series of palette knife paintings. Recently I have been doing a lot of demonstrations, so I don’t really feel like I am doing much, although my students love it.

My neighbor’s horses are foaling right now, and I have had a great time watching and photographing all that new life and energy! They have 5 new foals and one more on the way.  I see some fillies and colts coming up very soon in my paintings…most likely in a realistic style.
