In the Morbidly Adorable Creations’ studio, we LOVE (yes love!) anything that celebrates love, infatuation, adoration, worship, and hearts! Whether you are mending a broken heart or feeling the flutter of new love, we try to put a sweetly spooky spin on the emotion any chance we get! When February rolls around, the big eye cuties and their skelly counterparts like to spread equal parts love with equal parts mischief. If it can be shaped into a heart, they’ll attempt it! As the artist and creator of the Morbidly Adorables, it is important for me to allow even my darker children the opportunity to celebrate all things precious. There is something that just melts the heart when you see a skeleton get excited about receiving a Valentine! – Misty Benson

The month of February for some symbolizes love and for others it can symbolize the opposite. A lot of people have mixed feelings about the valentines holiday. With my work I try to capture the one thing that is constant year-round. It is the one emotion that can not be faked, that can not be put into a greeting card. And that emotion is passion. With out passion we would not strive to create works of art from our soul. This is my driving force of creating. With every piece of jewelry I make or every brush stroke my hand creates, there is a piece of my passion flowing into the finished piece. Valentine’s Day is a day for use to celebrate the love, passion & devotion we have for our loved one’s and our creative pursuits. There is a passion, obsession & devotion most artists feel when creating. This month just amplifies those emotions and the end result is very moving and heartfelt pieces. – Christina M. Givens

I create Pembroke Welsh Corgi themed paintings. Many of my pieces are created in art card form. Small pieces of sunshine to brighten the day. I enjoy painting through the seasons. Each season is unique and presents opportunities to create something special, suited just for that particular time of year. My little corgi world is a happy place, it is a pleasure to create sunny little glimpses into an imaginary world. Valentines Day presents a particularly fun theme. I love Victorian ephemera and all things old and well loved. I try to pull in ideas from the Victorian era of romance in my paintings throughout the year but most especially at Valentines! Corgi’s & Romance… they just seem to go together. – Valerie A. Brock

Valentines Day for me, has always been a day of celebrating the love in my life; but not just romantic love! As a child, my Mom would always have a special little gift for each of my sisters and myself as a token of how much she loved and thought about us. This gesture gave a deeper meaning to the holiday for me and I continued the tradition with my own kids as they were growing up. I’m certain I’ll do the same with my grandkids someday.

I hope my art continues to bring smiles and joy to collectors. I’m always happy when I know it has been given as a memento of love and affection on Valentines Day! – Kim Nil es

Art from the Heart to benefit American Red Cross Haiti Relief

February’s big date on the calendar is St. Valentine’s Day. Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is going to be everywhere you look. Not one to buck tradition (at last not this time), EBSQ is presenting a heart-themed show–with a twist. Because the need in Haiti continues to mount, we’ve turned this show into a fundraiser for the American Red Cross’s earthquake-relief efforts. There will be a $10 fee per entry. Half will go to the Red Cross. The other half will go to the Member’s Choice Winner to be selected by YOU at the close of the show. In additon, EBSQ is encouraging show paticipants to donate part (or all) of any proceeds that come from the sale of your entries to the American Red Cross (or another charity working to aid Haitian earthquake victims), although this is purely optional.

All entries in Art for the Heart should be heart-themed and may be any media or combination of media that the artist chooses.

We strongly recommend all artists include in their statement information about why and how they chose to create their piece, as statements can enhance the experience for the online viewer. We also encourage you to include detail shots of your entries. This will allow the viewer to fully appreciate your work as small details can be lost in an online environment.

Eligible entries must meet all points of the prospectus. If you have any questions regarding the prospectus and its requirements, please send them to edu@ebsqart.com.

Entry Instructions:

This show has special entry requirements

There is a $10 entry fee per piece entered and payable via our Chipin widget. $5 of each fee will go directly to the American Red Cross. The rest will go directly to the Member’s Choice winner which will be voted upon by registered site visitors between March 1-7 2010. All entrants which have not paid their fee by the end of February 2010 will have their work removed from the show.

To add an entry to any show:

Upload your art or search your artcase for the piece you’d like to enter.
Select “enter show” from the pull-down menu at the right hand side of this item (the default says “edit”) and click the “go” button.
Find the show you wish to enter and read over the prospectus to make sure your piece meets all of the requirements. If you feel you’re good to go, click “enter.”
That’s it; you’re all done!

Artists may submit up to 5 pieces per show.

This month’s featured gallery is Fantasy Art and it is one of our most-populous and popular galleries at EBSQ. The artists that are drawn to this genre take the fanciful images and stories that live within them and share them with everyone. Throughout October, we are going to take a few moments to catch up with some of EBSQ’s fantasy artists.

Creating art is what I do, how I live. It is how I connect with the world that exists outside of my studio and with my own feelings. It is my hope that each work of art that I create, invoke a reaction, of some kind, in the viewer… and a special connection with its owner.

In my ‘fantasy world’ my characters carry their hearts on strings or pull them on wheels, they play with owls and hedgehogs; they can go fishing on the moon or play and interact with ghosts.

Fantasy art allows our subjects to do or be whatever we imagine. Most important, it allows the artist to have so much fun doing what we love to do. – Charlene Murray Zatloukal
